The palm and the technique used to make these bracelets are known by the same name, "werregue." Traditionally, werregue baskets are woven so tightly, they are considered to be water-tight. These earrings form part of the artisanal heritage of the Wounaan indigenous community from the Chocó region of Colombia. The earrings are woven by hand using fiber from the werregue palm by the Artesanías Nawema artisan group led by Arcenio Moya. Originally from the Chocó region, the group now residents in Bogotá.
